Scenes From Bear Point-Orange Beach Canoe Trail
This blog shares a few photos from a recent kayak trip at Bear Point in Orange Beach. The goal of the outing was to catch some inshore fish, but I struck out on that front. However, I did come across what appears to be a bald eagle nest and saw loons fishing in the channel. I say it appears to be a bald eagle nest because it looks somewhat small for a typical eagle nest and more like an old osprey nest. Whatever the case, it’s wonderful to see bald eagles along the Gulf Coast and encouraging to witness the growing number of established nests in the area.
For more information about the canoe trail in Orange Beach, please visit Orange Beach Canoe Trail. Please note some of the launch sites are not friendly to larger kayaks if you plan on launching to do some kayak fishing. I launched my Hobie Pro Angler at the Mississippi Avenue site and it was somewhat doable. Some of “launches” are not friendly to heavier kayaks and would require help. The launch at Hayden Drive is problematic for even a canoe as it requires lifting and the dropping of the kayak and canoe over a sea wall if you are just by yourself. However, they are public access points so they do have some benefit. It is best to look at the launches on google maps to see if they would be compatible with your kayak. If not, there are public boat launches that would be better suited for larger kayaks.
