Jon Hauge
Hi! I’m Jon Hauge. For years, I’ve had the privilege of helping families capture their most treasured vacation memories along the Alabama Gulf Coast. My goal is simple: to make your beach photo session the easiest, most relaxed, and most fun hour of your entire vacation.
As a local photographer, I know exactly where to find the best light, the quietest stretches of sand away from the crowded condo backdrops, and how to handle the ever-changing coastal weather. Whether you are celebrating a multi-generational family reunion, an engagement, or simply want to document your children growing up, I bring a patient, upbeat approach to every single session.
You worry about enjoying the beach—I’ll take care of capturing the moments you’ll want to look back on forever.
Most beach photography relies entirely on "natural light"—an approach that leaves your annual family memories at the complete mercy of unpredictable Gulf Coast weather. On a typical summer evening, natural light often forces a compromise: you either get a bright portrait with a completely washed-out, solid white sky, or a beautiful sunset backdrop where your family is lost in dark, muddy shadows.
I do things differently. As a technical lighting specialist, I bring my own professional off-camera studio strobes right onto the sand. By bringing my own "sun" to our session, I eliminate harsh facial shadows, erase the need for squinting, and carve out stunning commercial-grade depth. This advanced technique allows me to simultaneously keep your family looking crisp and vibrant while fully preserving the rich, deep blues of an approaching storm or the fiery gold of a classic Alabama sunset. When you hire me, you aren't getting a random staff shooter dispatched from a corporate team; you are getting my personal expertise, my signature gear, and my commitment to engineering breathtaking, weather-proof portraits designed to hang as timeless art in your home.
I started out as a wildlife and landscape photographer for fun. After a few years I kept getting requests to do portraits in the landscape environments so my photography evolved into beach and on location portraits. I also offer corporate headshots as well as real estate photography. I am an available light photographer meaning I uses whatever light is available. Sometimes natural light is great and sometimes using off camera flash can make a dull dreary day look vibrant. I want to be ready and give you memorable photographs regardless of the situation or lighting.
