Kayaking Little Lagoon-Gulf Shores Alabama

This was a kayak fishing trip that turned into an impromptu birding expedition. I couldn’t find any fish that day, but the water level was low, which exposed sandbars and created perfect resting and hunting spots for shorebirds. If you’re visiting Gulf Shores with a kayak, Little Lagoon offers two convenient launches—on this trip I put in at the Jeff Friend Trail; the other is Moe’s Landing. One of the best things about Little Lagoon is that it’s protected, so you won’t encounter the big Gulf waves even on windy days. Shelby Lake at Gulf State Park is another calm, scenic spot nearby that’s ideal for kayaking and wildlife watching.
