The Ultimate Guide to Family Portraits at Your Gulf Shores Beach Rental

This multi-generation family session at a beach house in Gulf Shores West Beach had a little bit of everything! After arriving early to set up, I got to spend some fun, relaxed time capturing quick candid moments with the youngest ones in the group before we brought everyone together.

To keep things as comfortable and easy as possible for everyone—especially the eyes—we started our formal group portraits in the cozy shade of the beach house while the afternoon sun was still bright. Using off-camera lighting allowed us to bring back rich color, depth, and clarity without making anyone squint.

As the sun began to sink and the light softened, we moved down to the sand for a mix of classic posed portraits and playful, spontaneous candids. To top off an incredible evening, the sky put on a breathtaking show right after sunset. For those who stuck around down by the water, we wrapped up with a few gorgeous, dramatic blue-hour portraits.
