Holding the Dramatic Look-Gulf Shores Portraits

We had some very dramatic-looking skies for this family session at a beautiful beach house in Gulf Shores, Alabama. To translate that into more specific terms: it had been raining all afternoon, so we were left with a mesmerizing canvas of gray skies above us. I always strive to give my clients something different and truly unique. While I was busy taking portraits of other family members, I happened to notice this particular family all gathered together, patiently waiting for their turn in front of the camera. They were standing there, quietly watching the horizon with a calm and serene demeanor. I recognized that once I shifted my attention to them, their expressions would inevitably change, but I wanted to capture this tranquil moment just as it was. I quickly set up my lighting to create a dramatic look and asked the family to put on their “game face.” This particular expression lasted about a second before they all burst into laughter, which was delightful! However, in that brief moment, I was able to capture one perfect frame that beautifully illustrates the deep connection this family shares with each other, showcasing both the seriousness and joy in their bond.
