Last night at Fort Morgan’s stunning Kiva Dunes and the Kiva Beach Club, we got the ultimate answer to that question.

The Problem with Natural Light on Overcast Days
Most beach hobbyists rely entirely on "natural light." While natural light is beautiful on a perfectly clear evening, it completely fails when heavy storm clouds blanket the sky.
Without the sun, natural light turns flat, muddy, and gray. To get a bright enough exposure on the family’s faces, a natural light photographer has to blow out the sky, turning that incredible storm clouds backdrop into a boring, solid white sheet. Conversely, if they try to save the clouds, the family is left in deep, dark shadows.
