Rainy Day Session at the Island House-Orange Beach
This family session with a cherished repeat client of 10 years took place on a persistently rainy day at the Island House Hotel in Orange Beach, Alabama. The weather forecast predicted intermittent rain throughout the entire day, making planning a challenge. Originally, the session was scheduled for 7 pm, but extended radar scans showed a potential break in the rain around 4 pm. I arrived at 4 pm as planned, only to be met by an unexpected storm that made outdoor portraits impossible. We regrouped an hour later, but the rain was still ongoing. At that point, we decided to shift gears and shoot around the cozy lobby of the hotel, ensuring we didn't waste any more time just waiting for the weather to improve. Later, the radar indicated a possible clearing by 7 pm. Thankfully, a brief window of no rain opened up, allowing us to seize the moment and move our session to the beach. One of the fantastic aspects of working with repeat clients is the strong trust that has developed over the years, which allowed us to adapt and make the best of the challenging situation. This also highlights why I prefer longer sessions over mini-sessions — having an entire afternoon dedicated to the shoot gives me the flexibility to adjust plans when unpredictable weather arises, ensuring the best possible outcome for everyone involved.
